The British Columbia Marine Conservation Analysis (BCMCA) is a collaborative project assembling and analyzing spatial information about Canada's Pacific Ocean. The overall goal of the BCMCA is to identify marine areas of high conservation value and marine areas important to human use. Results of the project are intended to inform and help advance marine planning initiatives in BC by providing collaborative, peer-reviewed scientific analyses based on the best ecological and human use spatial data at scales relevant to a BC coast-wide analysis.

The purpose of this dataset is to identify the stream mouths of BC watersheds with potential salmon productivity for the BCMCA salmon capability feature identified at the BCMCA Marine and Anadromous Fish Experts Workshop. Data presented as 2 km x 2 km planning units for MARXAN analysis.

University of Montana, Flathead Lake Biological Station - We are using habitat specific triple pass electrofishing estimates from our field sites. We then use PC-ORD for a cluster analysis based on the landscape variables to infer which basins could have similar potential productivity. We assign the same densities of fish from our field sites to specific habitats in database sites, remotely quantify the total amount of those specific habitats types in each watershed, and then compute the total production potential of juveniles for different watersheds in our database.

This new dataset used a different unique ID and a spatial join was used to join the data to the old version of the watershed polygons which had previously been joined to the Excel file of fish estimates.
Note: In the attributes, the estimates by species have all been rounded to the nearest integer. The total estimate was calculated based on the original values before being rounded to the nearest integer.
