- Abstract:
-
These data are a subset of the TA_CROWN_TENURES_SVW, extracted to represent Crown land tenures issued for Ferry Terminal in coastal and marine environments.
TA_CROWN_TENURES_SVW contains the spatial representation of current Land Act tenures and applications for such tenures. These are a subset of crown land dispositions that are issued for specific purposes and periods of time under an agreement between an individual or company and the provincial government for an interest in crown land. Conveyances of ownership are not included. For example Leases, Licenses and Reserves are included, but Crown Grants and Acquisitions are not. Historical records (e.g. expired, replaced, or completed) are not included in this view. This view was created to provide the geometry for current crown land tenure activity from the Tantalis operational system.
- Purpose:
-
The purpose of the data is to display complete, up-to-date information on tenures issued on Crown land for Ferry Terminal along the coast of British Columbia for the BCMCA Atlas and Marxan analyses.
The British Columbia Marine Conservation Analysis (BCMCA) is a collaborative project assembling and analyzing spatial information about Canada's Pacific Ocean. The overall goal of the BCMCA is to identify marine areas of high conservation value and marine areas important to human use. Results of the project are intended to inform and help advance marine planning initiatives in BC by providing collaborative, peer-reviewed scientific analyses based on the best ecological and human use spatial data at scales relevant to a BC coast-wide analysis.
- Supplemental_Information:
-
**Please note that this feature has been updated since the Marxan analyses were run and the feature data no longer match the Marxan-ready data.**
Crown Tenures are refreshed daily to the LRDW from Tantalis. Crown Tenures in both the 'application' stage (pre-issuance) and 'tenure' stage (post-issuance) are represented in this view.
The Crown Land Registry is a database that maintains records of Crown land for the province of British Columbia, Canada. This registry has been maintained since the Hudson's Bay Company first began surveying land in British Columbia in the 1850s. At one time, large old hardcopy registers were used to record this information. In the 1980s these land records were computerized and in the late 1990s a new web accessible computer system was created. This new system was called 'Tantalis' and it consolidated previous Crown land information systems.

Within the provincial tenure data, it is not uncommon for tenures which have become up for renewal to be designated as an 'Application' type tenure even though it has not yet expired. This dataset includes all 'Tenure' and 'Application' types.
- Completeness_Report:
-
See the Marine Atlas of British Columbia, page, for reviewer comments and caveats of use.
The view of the data used by the BCMCA is out of date. Crown Tenures are refreshed daily to the LRDW from Tantalis. Crown Tenures in both the 'application' stage (pre-issuance) and 'tenure' stage (post-issuance) are represented in this view. Situations can arise where a Crown Tenure or application does not have a spatial extent defined. When this occurs the Tenure record and its associated attribute information will not appear in this view.
The Crown Tenures represented in this view are a subset of the Crown tenure types held in the Crown Land Registry system (Tantalis). For example Leases, Licenses and Reserves are included, but Crown Grants and Acquisitions are not.
Backlogs in the spatial update process may impact completeness.

TENURE_STATUS represents the business state of a tenure as it evolves from application to disposition and is often associated to a specific tenure stage (e.g. application, tenure). Typically the status is the result of either a business or client action. Examples: ALLOWED (application), DISPOSITION IN GOOD STANDING (tenure), SUSPENDED (tenure). SPECIAL NOTE: a status of HISTORIC applies to active Crown Grants retroactively entered from historic records.

- Attribute_Label: TEN_TYPE
- Attribute_Definition:
-
TENURE_TYPE identifies the nature and extent of legal rights conveyed and utilizes a distinct legal instrument (contract) to do so. Term lengths, exclusivity of use or cancellation provisions may be characteristics distinguishing one type from another. For example, a Lease is issued where long term tenure is required, where substantial improvements are proposed, and/or where definite boundaries are required in order to avoid land use and property conflicts. Example Tenure Types are : Lease, Licence, Revenue Sharing Agreement.

CROWN_LANDS_FILE is a unique seven-digit number generated by Crown Land Management offices to identify a disposition of Crown Land. This number is the basis for the ORCS number under which it will be filed and is commonly used in correspondence and physical files. For example, a file number might identify a specific Aquaculture Lease or a set of Right of Way tenures.
