These data represent Provincial Protected areas and are combined from three datasets downloaded from the Provincial Land and Resource Data Warehouse. Terrestrial, coastal and marine protected areas are included. The following designations are represented in this file: - Conservation Area - Ecological Reserve - Protected Area - Provincial Park - Recreation Area - Wildlife Management Area The information about Parks, Ecological Reserves, and Protected Areas, Conservancy Areas and Wildlife Management Areas represented in this view can be used to support a variety of purposes including, but not limited to: land use planning processes (e.g. Forest Stewardship Planning); statutory processes (e.g. free miner notification under the Mineral Tenure Act); and timber supply review processes. The Areas represented in this view are a subset of the Crown tenure types held in the Crown Land Registry system (Tantalis).
Purpose:
The purpose of the data is to display complete, up-to-date information on parks and protected areas, ecological reserves, conservancies and wildlife management areas in British Columbia for the BCMCA Atlas. The British Columbia Marine Conservation Analysis (BCMCA) is a collaborative project assembling and analyzing spatial information about Canada's Pacific Ocean. The overall goal of the BCMCA is to identify marine areas of high conservation value and marine areas important to human use. Results of the project are intended to inform and help advance marine planning initiatives in BC by providing collaborative, peer-reviewed scientific analyses based on the best ecological and human use spatial data at scales relevant to a BC coast-wide analysis.

WHSE_TANTALIS.TA_PARK_ECORES_PA_SVW, WHSE_TANTALIS.TA_CONSERVANCY_AREAS_SVW, WHSE_TANTALIS.TA_WILDLIFE_MGMT_AREAS_SVW are refreshed daily to the LRDW from Tantalis. Note: this data is more current than the data presented in the digital and hardcopy BCMCA Atlas. The Crown Land Registry is a database that maintains records of Crown land for the province of British Columbia, Canada. This registry has been maintained since the Hudson's Bay Company first began surveying land in British Columbia in the 1850s. At one time, large old hardcopy registers were used to record this information. In the 1980s these land records were computerized and in the late 1990s a new web accessible computer system was created. This new system was called 'Tantalis' and it consolidated previous Crown land information systems.
